Many renowned Polish filmmakers will be special guests at the festival.
So far, invitations have been issued to and accepted by director Krzysztof Zanussi, director and actor Jerzy Stuhr,
casting director Nadia Lebik and producer Paweł Pluciński.

 


KRZYSZTOF ZANUSSI
Born in 1939 in Warsaw. He studied Physics at the Warsaw University between 1955 and 1959 while attending lectures on film at the Institute of Art at the Polish Academy of Science (1956-57). He began his studies at the Philosophy Faculty at the Jagiellonian University of Cracow in 1959. He subsequently enrolled at the Film Direction Faculty at the Lodz Film School from which he graduated in 1966.

His first films were made in the Amateur Film Club of Warsaw University already in the fifties. Since 1966 he has directed numerous documentaries and feature films for both cinema and television in Poland as well as abroad. He writes or co-writes scripts for his own films (some of them were published in Poland [3 volumes], in Italy [2 volumes] and in other countries: Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic, India).

In years 1974-81 he was a vice - chairman of the Polish Filmmakers Association. Since 1979 he has been a Director and Art Director of the Film Studio "TOR". He has worked as a stage and opera director in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France and Russia. In March 1990 he was elected President of FERA (Federation Europeenne des Realisateurs de l' Audiovisuel).

Since 1994 he has been a member of the Pontifical Commission for Culture in Vatican and a vice-president of the Programme Council of Polish public TV. Since 1994 also the president of the Association EUROVISIONI. Professor at the Silesian University in Katowice since 1992. Member of Polish PEN - Club and of the Association of Writers.

JERZY STUHR

Born in Cracow, Poland, 1947.

Jerzy Stuhr studied the Polish Philology at the Jagiellonian University. After graduation in 1970, he began to study acting at the State Theater School in Cracow, where he was Chancellor (1990 - 1997).

Since 1972, he has played on stage under the leading directors at the STARY THEATER in Cracow, the likes of Konrad Swinarski, Jerzy Jarocki, and Andrzej Wajda (in the memorable performances of Crime and Punishment and The Devils among others); and also in the movies in Krzysztof Kieslowski's The Calm, The Scar, Camera Buff, Blind Chance, Decalogue, Three Colors: White; in Agnieszka Holland's Provincial Actors; in Andrzej Wajda's Rough Treatment, Passing Days, Passing Years; in Feliks Falk's Top Dog, Hero of the Year; in Krzysztof Zanussi's From a Far Country, Year of the Quiet Sun, Life for a Life; in Juliusz Machulski's Sexmission, Deja vu, Kingsize, Killer and many others.

Since 1980, he has been working in Italy as a director, actor and teacher. In 1985, he directed and played the lead in Peter Suskind's Double Bass, which had a successful world tour. 1994 saw The List of Adulteresses, the first feature he directed; and 1997 Love Stories his second, for which Jerzy Stuhr garnered the GOLDEN LIONS at the National Feature Film Festival in Gdynia in the same year. This block-buster was shown at dozens of international festivals and screenings garnering, among others: FIPRESCI Award at the Venice Film Festival of 1997 and NAVICELLA Award at the same Festival, Nominated for FELIX for the Best Actor Award in Berlin 1997, GRAND PRIX of the Newport Beach Int. Film Festival 1998, SPECIAL JURY AWARD and the Best Actor Award at the 14th International Film Festival Troia, Setubal 1998.

Represented the Polish Movies as a candidate for the Best Foreign Film Award for the OSCAR Academy Award of 1997. In 1997-98 Jerzy Stuhr worked with Harold Pinter directing and playing the lead in the Italian version of Ashes to Ashes.

PAWEŁ PLUCIŃSKI

Producer. Co-owner of Federico Film - founded in February 1997.
He graduated from Wrocław Academy of Music, Instrumental Department, Grand piano class. He also completed postgraduate studies, Masters in Instrumental Department, Grand piano class under supervision of Grzegorz Kurzyński. He has also completed postgraduate studies at Cracow University of Economics, the faculty of Trade and International Finances.

Federico Film is an active producer on the audiovisual market cooperatinge with Polish and foreign makers of feature films, documentaries, advertisements, video clips, TV programmes and TV series. Federico Film was Producer and Co-producer - among many others - of the following projects:
