At the 2015 Berlinale, Małgorzata Szumowska was awarded a Silver Bear for Best Director (Ex aequo). It is thus far Małgorzata Szumowska's best film.

Szumowska investigates all sides of the word "body" and applies an infinite number of tags to it. She carefully observes the physicality of her heroes. She shows bodies that are old and obese, dead, addicted, massacred, starved, anorexic, cooled down, erotic as well as hermaphrodite and freed from the burden of taboo (an excellent scene, in which Ewa Dałkowska dances naked to the song Śmierć w bikini (Death in Bikini by Republika). There are bodies of animals processed as food and astral bodies that communicate with alive ones via medium. Szumowska's film is about a diversity of ways one looks at the body. One could assume that the subject matter matches a video art piece better than a feature film, but the director of In the Name Of (W imię…) proves that it is not the case. Her study of corporeality is woven into a story of a Warsaw-based alcoholic prosecutor Janusz (Janusz Gajos), his grown-up anorexic daughter (Justyna Suwała), and a therapist (Maja Ostaszewska). Janusz is not a man to be easily shocked. As a coroner he undertakes precise research, in analysing the crime scene. Despite the extreme situations he comes up against, he works hard. Perhaps too hard. Yet when faced with the problems of his anorexic daughter Olga, still grieving for her dead mother, he feels helpless. Fearing that she might kill herself, he commits her to a clinic where Anna, a psychologist, takes care of her. Years before, Anna lost her baby to cot-death and now sequesters herself and her big dog in a heavily barricaded flat and conjures up spirits who communicate with the living from beyond the grave ... Małgorzata Szumowska works with elements of black comedy to explain the difficulties people encounter when struggling to cope with the loss of loved ones. The film explores problems of the fear of and yet longing for intimacy, self-harm due to mental anguish and escape into the esoteric, complex meditation on the loneliness of the heart and the conflict between the rational and belief in supernatural powers.

To już tradycja. W 2004 r. w sekcji Panorama Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Filmowego w Berlinie Małgorzata Szumowska pokazała film "Ono", w 2012 r. w tej samej sekcji -"Sponsoring". Rok temu o Złotego Niedźwiedzia z filmami Gusa Van Santa i Ulricha Seidla walczył jej film "W imię..." z Andrzejem Chyrą w roli głównej. Reżyserka jako pierwsza Polka w historii zdobyła wówczas nagrodę Teddy przyznawaną najlepszej produkcji dotykającej tematyki LGBT. Małgorzata Szumowska mówiła niedawno Tadeuszowi Sobolewskiemu, jeszcze w trakcie montażu filmu:

" Początkowo to miał być film o anorektyczkach. Z Michałem Englertem, z którym pisałam scenariusz, zorientowaliśmy się jednak, że byłby to film hermetyczny, zrozumiały tylko dla tych, którzy sami przez to przeszli. A z kolei dochodzenie przyczyn anoreksji, szukanie winy w rodzicach itd. grozi klisz?. Poza tym musiałby to być film bardzo brutalny - widz odwracałby się ze wstrętem od ekranu. Nie chciałam tego. Nie lubię dwóch skrajnych wersji polskiego kina: tej ckliwej, z wiarą i z happy endem, oraz tej epatującej bebechami. Jednak muszę przyznać, że tak w sumie ironicznego filmu jeszcze nie robiłam. U mnie to rewolucja. Przestaje mnie interesować w kinie, że bohater przeżywa dramat i że to ma być w stylu kina festiwalowego, że on cierpi i nie ma nadziei. Może to kwestia dojrzałości - bo ja 42 lata zaraz kończę - ale coraz bardziej pociąga mnie takie ironiczne przełamywanie tragizmu. Kino bardziej żywiołowe - takie właśnie będę teraz robić. Po raz pierwszy w życiu mam poczucie, że tym filmem niczego nie próbuję udowodnić. Nie jestem zdenerwowana jak kiedyś. Czasem boimy się, że za bardzo uwierzyliśmy we własne uczucia. I że to, co nas wzrusza we własnym filmie, co wydaje się "metafizyczne", po roku pracy zacznie trącić pretensjonalnością. Po raz pierwszy nie mam ze sobą takiego problemu. Oczywiście, zawsze czerpie się z siebie, ze swoich lęków, z pragnień. I nie jest tak, że w "Body/Ciele" nie ma moich bebechów. Tylko nie czuję już zagrożenia. Chciałabym, żeby ludzie się śmiali na moich filmach. "Body/Ciało" jest do uśmiechnięcia się. Nie żeby się zaraz brechtać, pokładać. Ale tak trochę".

Główne role w filmie zagrali Janusz Gajos, Maja Ostaszewska i Justyna Suwała. Na berlińskim festiwalu "Body" miało swoją oficjalną światową premierę i zdobyło nagrodę Srebrnego Niedźwiedzia.
